Southern Thailand

Southern Thailand is one of the place that touches my heart. It is one of the place that I called home My late grandma is from Yala , one of the province in Southern Thailand. She passed away a month ago and it was really sad for all of us.
everytime I go back there it made me realise that the fact that one nation civilization do change after being ruled by other nation for more 200years. Southern Thailand has been under thailand for more tha n 200years and majority of them are from the malay ethnic group unfortunately not all of them speak malay, just the elderly people. In the past people from Southern Thailand regards themselves as malays but nowadays the young generation called themselves thai muslim.
is it important to be acknowlegde by our ethnic groups? or being called muslim is just good enough?
The thai government has been helping with the development of the muslim thai in southern thailand for last 10years. The government has been financially supporting the establishment of the thai muslim schools, mosques and etc. However, the conlict arised in thai due to some freedom fighters who feel the need to be freed Southern Thailand from Thailand in order to become an independent country or at least being acknowledged as malay nation in their identification card. These freedom fighters have not been living in Thailand for more than 30 or 40 years but most live in Western countries. Imagine, when every Southern Thai adapted to the Thai rulling and these people are still finding ways to gain independence. So, whats the best solution? If you were to ask the young generation in southern thailand, they would say they are happy being under thai rulers and they are proud to be thais. So,what you do guys think of these whole scenarios?
Bytheway, let me proceed on the comment about nadia's presentation. I honeslty think she was one of the best presenter after lufi ,mashallah. she spoke clearly and her information was easy to digest. Overall, i think she did great:)
